Welcome to our clinic!! Let's take a tour. Our tour begins with a look at our building and grounds.
Located adjacent to Thalia Creek, Bay Beach Veterinary Medical Clinic is situated on a picturesque piece of land complete with shade trees and a pleasant outside seating area.
While the building itself is over thirty years old, a recent addition allowed extensive remodeling of the most crucial areas of the clinic: the treatment, special procedures, surgical and isolation areas--the "behind the scenes" areas where most patient care occurs. Let's go inside a take a look around.
This floor plan will help us with our tour. Using your mouse, "click" on the part of the clinic you are interested in seeing and you will be on your way!!
Nobody likes to wait. We at Bay Beach understand this and strive to make your wait as short and as pleasant as possible. Scheduling appointments rather than "walking in" helps considerably. We do understand that some problems arise rather quickly, but even in those cases we encourage you to call before coming in. In most cases we can easily schedule same-day appointments, often within the hour if needed. As always, we see true medical emergencies immediately--it still helps if you call us to let us know you are on the way in. Sometimes despite our best efforts, we get behind, especially if we have taken time to treat an emergency. In these times, we greatly appreciate your understanding and your patience if you have to wait.

Our receptionists answer the phones, schedule appointments, check-in and discharge patients, and generally keep the lines of communication open. Keep in mind, however, that our receptionists cannot answer medical questions without checking with a doctor first. If you have questions concerning a medical condition of your pet, the receptionist can relay information from the doctor or can arrange for you to speak directly to the doctor, depending upon the situation. Keep in mind that the doctors are frequently busy seeing clients or performing procedures and may need to call you back. We appreciate your understanding. Calling ahead for prescrition refills and food orders can help considerably--our receptionists can fill these orders and have them ready for pick-up, saving you time.

The office is well-stocked with up-to-date textbooks and a computer which allows internet access to research complex medical cases. Bay Beach subscribes to the Veterinary Information Network, an on-line service which allows subscribers the opportunity to consult with colleagues and specialists on complex medical and surgical problems.

Here our doctors examine your pet and make recommendations regarding any needed diagnostic, treatment, or surgical procedures. Routine vaccinations, heartworm checks or other minor procedures are carried out here. Advanced procedures or procedures requiring special equipment may require that your pet be taken to other areas of the clinic. Once any needed diagnostics are performed, the exam room serves as a consult area to discuss any needed treatments or procedures or to discuss home-care instructions. The close proximity of our pharmacy and laboratory enable us to provide needed medications in a timely manner.

It is here that our technicians, doctors, or other staff draw blood for diagnostics, flush ears, trim nails, place intravenous catheters, administer medications, change bandages, clean teeth, extract teeth, and perform some minor procedures requiring anesthesia. Adjacent to the treatment area itself is the special procedures room. This room is fully equipped for routine dental procedures and other minor procedures requiring anesthesia. This room also houses our ultrasound equipment used to perform diagnostic abdominal ultrasound and echocardiograms (ultrasound exam of the heart). Bay Beach employs a full-time veterinary technician who spends most of her time in these areas carrying out the instructions of our doctors.

Most patients are placed in our spacious main hospital ward during their stay. Exceptions include animals with potentially contagious diseases. These animals are placed in our isolation ward. Critically ill animals requiring intensive care are often placed in our surgery prep/recovery area where they can be closely watched while the staff continues to work on other animals. Intravenous fluid pumps, heating pads, and other equipment ensure appropriate care for all our patients, regardless of why they are hospitalized.

Some animals that require hospitalization may have contagious diseases that could pose a risk to other hospitalized animals. These patients are kept in our newly remodeled isolation ward. A separate air return ventilation fan in this ward helps prevent contaminated air from being circulated throughout the building. A window within the door enables staff to monitor these patients without constantly entering the room. We strive to protect the health of all hospitalized patients by keeping contagious cases isolated.

Many different medical conditions can be diagnosed using x-rays (radiographs). Radiographs allow us a non-invasive means of evaluating internal structures. They also allow us to look for fractures, swallowed objects, abnormal accumulation of fluids, and many other conditions. Bay Beach has full capabilities for performing most types of diagnostic radiography. Our automatic processor allows for rapid development of films for quick assessment of the condition involved.

The Spring of 2000 brought some exciting changes to Bay Beach. The addition of a storage area gave us room in the main portion of the building to construct a new, modern surgery suite. With a heated surgery table, pulse oximeter, EKG monitor, new isoflurane anesthesia machine, and electrosurgery unit, our new surgery suite provides a pleasant state-of-the-art area for the performance of elective and emergency medical procedures. The glass doors afford the surgeon the opportunity to view previous surgical patients recovering in the recovery area of the surgical prep room while working on the next patient. Our surgical patients receive the best in pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care.

Prior to being taken to our new surgery suite, surgery patients are prepped in our new surgery prep/recovery room. This modern room features a table for induction of anesthesia, clippers and surgical scrub solutions for clipping and prepping of the surgical site prior to moving the patient into our new surgery suite for the procedure itself. After the procedure, the patient is taken back to the surgery prep/recovery area where it is closely monitored until awake. The glass wall separating the surgical suite from this room allows doctors and staff members to monitor recovering animals closely while working on the next patients. Cages in this area allow close monitoring of critically ill animals on busy surgery days. We are proud to provide the best in pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care!!

But this particular storage room plays a major role in Bay Beach's recent renovation. Constructed in the Spring of 2000, this storage room enabled us to move a lot of food and other supplies out of the main building. It is the space created in the main building that enabled us to build a new surgery suite, a new surgery prep/recovery area, a new isolation ward, and enabled us to convert our old surgery room to a special procedures area. We look forward to providing better medical and surgical care thanks to our new storage room!!
