Dr. Mark W. Honaker

Dr. Mark W. Honaker is a 1981 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. After practicing emergency medicine and critical care for eighteen years in the Tidewater area, Dr. Honaker purchased Bay Beach Veterinary Medical Clinic in the Spring of 1998 upon the retirement of Dr. Sandy Flynn. His background in emergency medicine and critical care provided him with the necessary medical and surgical skills to handle even the most complex cases. He reads extensively and regularly attends continuing education seminars to remain current in all aspects of veterinary medicine.

When not working, Dr. Honaker enjoys windsurfing, rollerblading, biking, and spending time on the Outer Banks with his wife, Jan, and their two children, Raegan and Jason. They share their Virginia Beach home with their dog Buddy, their cat Elvis, and a cantankerous cockatiel named Cheeky Bird. Dr. Honaker also serves as the veterinarian for the Virginia Task Force 2 of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In this capacity, Dr. Honaker participates in regular training sessions and is subject to being activated at any time to accompany the Task Force to disaster sites to provide emergency medical care for the search and rescue dogs. His most recent deployment was to the Pentagon in September.
